Sen. Jibrin Doguwa, Factional Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano, has faulted the reported expulsion of Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin from the party, describing the action as illegal and without legitimacy.
Doguwa told newsmen in Kano that the decision announced by a rival faction loyal to Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso had no effect, as it was not endorsed by the recognised leadership.
“The expulsion is null and void. I am the legitimate chairman of the NNPP in Kano, and no such decision was taken with our consent,” Doguwa said.
The Kwankwasiyya-led faction, under the chairmanship of Hashim Dungurawa, had earlier accused Jibrin of anti-party activities and defaulting in payment of party dues.
But Doguwa dismissed the claims, insisting that Jibrin’s comments in a recent television interview did not amount to anti-party conduct.
“What Kofa said was not anti-party. Every politician has the right to switch platforms. Even President Bola Tinubu changed parties before becoming who he is today,” he added.
He accused the Dungurawa-led group of acting beyond its powers and warned that legal action would be taken if such decisions continued.
“If Dungurawa does not stop this illegality, we will meet him in court,” Doguwa warned.
The development is the latest in the leadership tussle rocking the NNPP since the 2023 elections.
Jibrin, a former APC lawmaker and ex-Director-General of the Tinubu Support Groups, joined the NNPP in 2022 under the Kwankwasiyya banner but has recently hinted at leaving the party.
