Ahead of the October 5, 2024, Local Government Elections in Jigawa State, the State Independent Electoral Commission has inaugurated a 13-member Elections Malpractices Tribunal.
According to the Commission, the creation of the Tribunal underscores its commitment to ensuring a free and fair electoral process.
A statement by the Commission’s Public Relations Officer, Mallam Habibu Yusuf, emphasized that the Tribunal will act as an impartial body, protecting the rights of those who may feel cheated during the elections.
The statement further revealed that the State Chief Judge, Justice Umar Mai Gari, administered the oath to the tribunal judges, led by Justice Musa Ubale.
“The Tribunal Judges are men of proven integrity, known for their judicial conduct, and are tasked with receiving complaints from anyone who believes the election was rigged or who faced harassment,” the statement read.
The inauguration, held on Monday, was attended by the state’s Attorney General, Bello Abdulkadir Fanini, the Chairman of the Commission, Auwalu Harbo, and other INEC Commissioners.
