NAFOWA Kano Honors Breast Cancer Advocate Dr. Maryam Nasir Aliyu

The Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA), Kano Chapter, has honored Dr. Maryam Nasir Aliyu, Founder of Anatomia Ltd and Kano State Coordinator of the Nigerian Cancer Society, for her significant contributions to the fight against breast cancer in Nigeria.

The award was presented by Group Captain M. Suleiman, Commander of the 455 Base Service Group, Nigerian Air Force, during the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Talk event held today in Kano State.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international campaign observed every October to raise awareness about breast cancer, encourage early detection, and support those affected.

The theme for this year’s event is “No-one should face breast cancer alone.”

Group Captain Suleiman emphasized, “NAFOWA recognizes Dr. Maryam’s efforts in championing the campaign for breast cancer awareness in the country, which exemplifies her selfless commitment to humanitarian activities.”

During the awareness walk, Dr. Maryam delivered an educational lecture titled “Be Breast Cancer Aware,” highlighting the basic signs of breast cancer, prevention strategies, and available treatment options.

Dr. Maryam expressed her gratitude to NAFOWA for the special honor and pledged to strengthen partnerships in addressing breast cancer and other cancer-related issues across the country.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer globally, with around 2.3 million new cases every year. It represents one in eight cancer cases in both sexes and a quarter of all cancers in women, with 70% of mortality occurring in resource-constrained settings.
