Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has expressed confidence that the people of the South-West will not support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, citing the hardship inflicted on Nigerians by the ruling party.
Makinde, leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the region, noted that many in the South-West, particularly Yoruba people, had come to regret their decision to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections.3
In contrast, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, during a stakeholders meeting aimed at reconciling party leaders, asserted that the APC would secure the South-West for Tinubu in 2027.
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, while on a campaign tour in Ese Odo LGA, also declared that the opposition PDP was no longer relevant in the state, claiming that many opposition leaders had returned to the APC.
In response to Ganduje and Aiyedatiwa, Makinde insisted that the PDP still held influence in the South-West.
“If wishes were horses, everybody would be riding it. I can tell you that the people of the South-West of Nigeria are wiser and especially in Ondo State. On November 16, they will tell him (Ganduje) that Ondo State and indeed South-West is for the PDP,” Makinde stated during a campaign in Ondo State.
He added, “Talk, they say, is cheap. You can say whatever you like, but the people of Ondo State will speak loud and clear on November 16, 2024, and the whole country will hear it.”
