Kano State Government has begun implementing the newly approved ₦71,000 minimum wage for its workers, fulfilling a key promise to enhance their welfare.
The implementation follows the government’s approval of recommendations from a special committee tasked with reviewing the minimum wage.
Workers received their November salaries with the approved increment, maintaining the government’s tradition of paying salaries promptly on the 25th of each month.
Commenting on the development, the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and commended the governor for keeping his promise.
“Since the very day His Excellency made the pronouncement on the salary increase, I remained optimistic that the governor’s words would be matched with action,” Musa stated.
He urged civil servants to reciprocate the gesture with dedication and commitment. “This increment is a call for us to rededicate ourselves to effective and efficient service delivery. Let us exhibit hard work and fear of God in our duties to fully justify what we are earning,” he added.
Musa also advised workers to manage the increment wisely, saying, “Avoid extravagant spending and use this increment to better your living conditions.”
Highlighting the government’s broader commitment to workers’ welfare, Musa disclosed that allowances for health workers had also been paid as part of ongoing efforts to improve their conditions.
The announcement has sparked widespread celebration among Kano State workers. Many expressed joy upon receiving salary alerts reflecting the new wage.
“This is a life-changing move by the government. It will ease the economic pressure many of us have been facing,” said one excited worker.
A public school teacher shared similar views, “The governor has truly demonstrated his commitment to our welfare. This increment will motivate us to give our best in our roles.”
The Director of Public Enlightenment in the Office of the Head of Civil Service, Aliyu Yusuf, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to workers’ welfare and urged civil servants to remain steadfast in their duties.
