The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has refuted claims of endorsing the administration of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, during the Ede Day celebrations.
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) accused Doguwa of making remarks that undermined the party.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Mr. Kola Olabisi, on Monday, the APC demanded an investigation into Doguwa’s comments.
Doguwa, who represents Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State in the House of Representatives, had attended the event on behalf of Speaker Tajudeen Abass, his remarks drew criticism from the APC in Osun State, prompting swift clarification.
Responding on Tuesday, Doguwa explained that his comments were taken out of context and manipulated by the PDP to gain political mileage.
“I was quoted out of context. Honestly, the PDP media team in Osun misused my jokes to attack our party, APC, in the context of their local political tussles. It was indeed quite unfortunate; they used my innocent comments to score cheap political gains,” he said.
Expressing regret for the misunderstanding, Doguwa reassured his commitment to the APC and predicted the party’s return to power in Osun State.
“By God’s grace, the days of the PDP are numbered in Osun State. In 2026, our party will bounce back in the state, In Sha Allah,” he declared.
He further apologized to party members in Osun, stating, “I urge my APC compatriots in Osun to accept my apologies for what may have appeared to be underlying comments or statements against my party. I never meant to undermine or embarrass my mother’s party for any reason whatsoever. Thank you.”
Doguwa’s remarks appear aimed at quelling any dissent within the APC and reaffirming the party’s determination to reclaim Osun in the next governorship election.
