Former senator representing Katsina North Senatorial District, Senator Ahmed Babba Kaita, called on the Northern Nigerian religious leaders and elites to unite in order to put an end to the operations of the Kano-based satellite television, Arewa24.

Senator Babba Kaita, one of the most influential senators in the 9th assembly who chairs the committee on TETFUND and tertiary institutions, and serves as the vice chairman of the Senate committee on ethics, privileges, and public petitions, made this call on Friday via his verified Facebook page in the Hausa language.

If northern religious leaders, elders, high public office holders, businessmen, and politicians do not unite to bring an end to the broadcasting of Arewa24 Television, we have not yet witnessed the full extent of the problem. The current situation is already quite concerning.”

Senator Babba Kaita’s call comes amidst controversies and criticisms on various social media platforms regarding one of the TV shows, Mata A Yau.

In 2014, Equal Access International (EAI), a non-governmental organization, launched the world’s first Hausa-language free-to-air 24/7 satellite television channel, called Arewa24, which broadcasts and presents programs in the indigenous Hausa language.
