They say all is fair in love and war, but in my understanding, it is fairer if you win the game, be it love, war, politics, or elections, with the conviction that the other side has a level playing ground as you. It makes sense for an adult to flex muscles with a contemporary, while it is unfair for him to engage a child. When we apply this logic to Kano State APC’s victory at the appeal court sitting in Abuja yesterday, we would say that all of it is fair. For the APC, it is a victory well deserved.
On this note, it is only fair to attribute every bit of it to our Supremo, the APC’s national Numero Uno, its National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR, who stood firm, provided guidance for everyone, with encouraging words, and gave everybody a sense of belonging; who preached party supremacy to every member not with words alone but by actions.
It was not an easy ride. Everybody within the APC fold suffered his fair share of name-calling, degradation, and shame. In fact, a section of Kano State populace whom the NNPP-led Government assumed had prior alliances with the APC were not spared – their properties were destroyed; their businesses stifled all in the name of dirty politics that should not have been.
However, after the win in the appeal court yesterday, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje addressed party faithful and from what he said, my take-home is that he wants to entrench discipline in politics so that every political player sees it as a clean game and conducts it with decorum. His statement that ‘I want Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna to succeed, I want him to be a better Governor than I was because that will make me a proud father and mentor to him and all of you…’ says a lot about his persona and his vision.
Therefore, while congratulating the duo of Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and Alh. Murtala Sule Garo (our incoming Governor and his Deputy); Alh. Abdullahi Abbas, the Kano State APC chairman; Alhaji Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, The DG Gawuna/Garo Campaign Directorate, and Malam Muhammad Garba, the Gawuna/Garo Campaign Spokesperson; Hajiya Fatima Abdullahi Dala, our able woman leader, and all the men and women within our party who worked tirelessly for this victory. Indeed, we are true disciples of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, that gentleman politician who instilled in us the virtues of patience and hard work and how they always pay.
Hence, on this note, and on behalf of all members of the APC, this submission is to celebrate His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the first northern politician who preaches the gospel of clean politics and following the rule of law. You are a true leader Baba, and I trust that you will always win. Supreme Court, here we come. It will be well, insha Allah.
