GGI 2023 List: Y. Z Ya’u, Abdallah Uba, Malala Yousafzai Top Influential Figures

The Executive Director of the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), Engr. Y.Z Ya’u, former Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Abdallah Uba Adamu, and Pakistani female education activist and the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Malala Yousafzai, have been included among the 26 influential personalities for 2023.

The Girls Gate Initiative’s latest ranking, unveiled on Tuesday, honored several notable figures for their impactful contributions. Among those recognized were the late civil society activist, Comrade IG Maryam from Kano; SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer of Kano State; Ahmed Musa, a Nigerian professional footballer; Hamzat B. Lawal, an anti-corruption activist in Nigeria; and multiple advocates for girls’ education and gender equality, applauding their remarkable work spanning various sectors and organizations.

Kano Times reported that the Girls Gate Initiative detailed the ranking to celebrate individuals who have made positive impacts in Kano State, Nigeria, and globally through their achievements and contributions.

Commenting on the ranking, Ambassador Huzaifa Jamil, the founder of Girls Gate Initiative, mentioned, ‘The list showcases a diverse and inspiring group of men and women who have exhibited excellence, innovation, leadership, resilience, and vision in their respective areas. This includes activists, development workers, entrepreneurs, journalists, educators, and more.’
