Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Musa Ilyasu Kwankwaso, made an appeal to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, urging him to abandon plans for a Judicial Commission of Inquiry (JCI) aimed at investigating the tenure of former Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
In a statement released in Kano on Monday, Ilyasu Kwankwaso asserted, “The move to probe the former governor is a smokescreen of a hidden agenda designed to humiliate the national chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.”
The former commissioner for rural and community development further elaborated, suggesting that the intent behind probing Dr. Ganduje’s administration is rooted in political vendetta, with the aim of exposing alleged financial wrongdoings committed by his political mentor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, during his tenure as governor.
Kwankwaso emphasized, “Dr. Kwankwaso and Governor Yusuf should shelve negative moves aimed at tarnishing the image and reputation of Dr. Ganduje over their desperate attempt to join the ruling APC.”
As a staunch ally of Ganduje, Kwankwaso alleged that the recent Commission of Inquiry established by Governor Yusuf was instigated by Kwankwasiyya leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with the objective of tarnishing Ganduje’s reputation.
“We are calling on Governor Yusuf to stop dancing to the tune of Dr. Kwankwaso because the teeming masses of the state are well aware of the alleged abuse of office associated with his tenure.”
Furthermore, Kwankwaso stressed the importance of adhering to legal procedures, stating, “We were not begging Governor Yusuf not to embark on probing Dr. Ganduje’s administration because constitutionally, a sitting governor has the right to probe his predecessor, but as I said, ‘he who lives in a glass house must not throw stones’.”
Dr. Kwankwaso then directed the state Governor’s attention to a ruling of a federal high court, highlighting that only the Attorney General of the country or the Economic Financial Crime Commission possesses the authority to initiate a probe on financial allegations.
He urged Governor Yusuf to consider this before proceeding with the inquiry.
