Isa Sanusi Bayero, a close confidant and the Chief Protocol Officer to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, has shown public support for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
In a short video clip circulating online, Mr. Bayero, a trained pilot engineer, is seen singing a popular pro-Yusuf song, “Abba Gida-Gida… Abba” (meaning “Abba Here, There… Abba Everywhere”), while relaxing in a hotel room.
This display of support comes amidst speculation that Governor Yusuf might revisit the controversial decision by the previous administration to split the Kano Emirate into five and dethrone the former Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Recall that the immediate past Kano State governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, not only deposed Emir Sanusi but created an additional four Emirate councils bringing the total number of Emirates to five.
The additional four Emirate Councils, created by Ganduje, include Rano, Karaye, Bichi, and Gaya, with the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, as the Chairman of the state Councils of Emirs.
Meanwhile, Kano Times observed that after the Supreme Court validated the victory of Yusuf, there were intensified calls for the reinstatement of the former Kano Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Some Kano residents had been agitating in the State, calling for the removal of the Emirs, changing the status quo, and for the re-installation of the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, as the sole Emir of Kano.
Isa Sanusi Bayero’s support for Governor Yusuf might hint at a promising alliance, possibly paving the way for Aminu Ado Bayero and the other emirs to maintain their reign.
