In a press release issued today, the Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) announced the interception of a tanker carrying over 20,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.
The statement, delivered by Command Public Relations Officer Superintendent of Corps (SC) Ibrahim Abdullahi, revealed that the tanker was suspected of diverting the fuel from a Kano filling station and heading towards an undisclosed location in a neighboring state when it was apprehended along Ibrahim Taiwo Road.
“An investigation is currently underway,” SC Abdullahi said. “Upon its conclusion, the petroleum product will be returned and offloaded at the designated filling station in Kano. Legal action will be taken against those involved in the diversion.”
In a separate operation, the NSCDC addressed concerns raised about criminal activities at the Bachirawa Kwanar Ungoggo Market in Ungoggo Local Government Area.
SC Abdullahi reported that traders had informed the NSCDC about the presence of miscreants engaged in vandalism, theft of private property, and dealing in illicit drugs.
“In response to these concerns,” SC Abdullahi continued, “a joint operation was conducted involving NSCDC personnel from the armed squad unit and vigilante groups. This operation resulted in the arrest of over 50 suspected criminals within the market.”
The NSCDC spokesperson confirmed that investigations into the market crimes have begun and that the arrested suspects will be duly prosecuted.
