The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of campaign funds by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) during the 2023 elections. This investigation also includes the failure of the Kwankwaso-led National Working Committee to pay party agents who worked during the presidential and governorship elections.
Reliable sources from Vanguard have confirmed that the EFCC has summoned the party’s National Secretary, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, to provide evidence supporting the fraud allegations against Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his Private Secretary, Mrs. Folashade Aliu.
Mrs. Aliu is alleged to be the conduit for the misappropriation of party funds through secret accounts used for campaign donations.
The petition, signed by Oginni, also implicates several other key figures associated with a bank account of the NNPP. These include Prof. Rufai Alkali, Abba Kawu, and Dipo Olayokun. Sources indicate that the EFCC may also investigate the sudden wealth accumulation of Dipo Olayokun, who reportedly acquired properties in prime areas of Abuja within two years of his tenure as a signatory to the NNPP’s account.
In a telephone interview with Vanguard from Abeokuta, Comrade Oginni confirmed his visit to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja last Wednesday. He provided statements and clarifications regarding the N2.5 billion fraud allegations against Senator Kwankwaso and his associates.
“Indeed, I was invited by the EFCC. I honored the invitation and was pleased with the professionalism displayed by the EFCC officers. I responded to questions related to the petition without any harassment or intimidation,” Oginni stated. “They aim to ensure the allegations are true and not motivated by any ill will. We are confident that Nigeria is in safe hands with this cadre of EFCC officers committed to eradicating corruption at the highest levels without fear or favor.”
Given the EFCC’s actions, it is apparent that an investigation into the petition against Senator Kwankwaso has begun, and his summons by the anti-graft agency to address these allegations appears imminent.
