Kano’s New Police Commissioner: A Profile of CP Salman-Dogo Garba

Kano State welcomes CP Salman-Dogo Garba, who has assumed duty as the 46th Commissioner of Police for the Kano State Police Command. Born on July 21, 1966, in Ilorin West LGA of Kwara State, CP Garba brings a wealth of experience and a distinguished career in law enforcement to his new role.

CP Garba’s educational journey began at Al-Mubarak Primary School in Ilorin, followed by Kabba Teachers College in Kogi State. He later earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, he trained at the Nigeria Police Academy in Kano, then annexed in Kaduna. His first posting was to Garki Division in the FCT Police Command in 1994. Over the next two decades, CP Garba held numerous pivotal positions, including Divisional Crime Officer at Gwagwalada Division and Officer in Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in FCT. He also served as Divisional Police Officer in various divisions across FCT, Delta, and Osun State Police Commands, among other significant roles.

Promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police in 2014, CP Garba was appointed Area Commander of Area ‘A’ Lion Building in Lagos State Police Command. His leadership extended to Kaduna State as Area Commander Metro from 2016 to 2017, and later as Area Commander Wudil in Kano State in 2018.

In 2019, he rose to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police and was assigned to various commands, including DC Operations at Zone 12 Bauchi and Anambra State Police Commands, and DC Department of Criminal Investigation at Airport Police Command from 2020 to 2022. Promoted to Commissioner of Police in November 2022, he served as CP General Investigation at the Force Criminal Investigation Department and later CP Armament at Force Headquarters in Abuja before his current appointment in Kano State.

CP Garba’s professional development includes participation in several courses and seminars both domestically and internationally, such as the Community Policing Course in the USA (2008), Advanced Detective Course at Police Staff College, Jos (1999), and Strategic Leadership Command Course at Police Staff College, Jos (2018). His extensive training has equipped him with a robust skill set in community policing, intelligence, and strategic leadership.

Throughout his career, CP Garba has traversed all six geo-political zones of Nigeria, earning numerous awards and commendations for his exemplary service.

CP Salman-Dogo Garba is married and blessed with children, and he is expected to bring his vast experience and strategic vision to enhance the safety and security of Kano State.
