A Non-Governmental Organization, Kano Leadership Enlightenment and Advocacy for Development Initiative (Kano-LEADS), visited Kibiya Community School, Tahfeez Quran College (TQC), and Al-Majlisul Islami in Hotoro, as well as At-Tarbiyya Community College and Umarul Farouq Community School.
Barr. Aisha Dankani, President of Kano-LEADS, represented by Abubakar Sadiq Umar, General Secretary, explained that the purpose of the visits was to understand the focus of these schools and to assist in enhancing the community colleges to achieve their academic goals.
Sen. Usman Kibiya Umar (Sarkin Kibiya), Chairman of the Education Cluster of Kano-LEADS and TQC, emphasized the importance of community involvement in the provision of knowledge, decision-making processes, and the cultivation of good individuals in society. He underscored the significance of community participation among stakeholders and the state government in education, fostering a sense of ownership of the school.
KANO TIMES gathered that the visit aimed to assess the extent of community involvement in management, identify opportunities for community participation, determine the impact of such involvement on school management, and pinpoint challenges along with potential solutions.
Dr. Yusuf Musa, Secretary General of TQC, praised individuals who voluntarily donate resources to the school, benefiting the people of Kibiya, Kano, and Nigeria at large.
“We started in 1995 with one class as a boarding school at the late Malan Yunusa Aliyu’s residence. Now we have 600 students with about 130 staff, both academic and non-academic,” he said.
Dr. Yusuf also announced the opening of the Tahfeez College of Health Sciences and Technology in Kibiya in September 2024.
Maifada Bello Kibiya, Director of TQC, expressed gratitude to Kano-LEADS’ president, staff, and other stakeholders for their visit.
In a related development, Kano-LEADS’ Educational Cluster also visited Al-Majlisul Islami in Hotoro, a center that has graduated many students who have become scholars, Imams, and ambassadors in education and Islam.
Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad Getso, Chief Lecturer at Sa’adatu Rimi University in Kano and a board member of Al-Majlisul Islami, guided the Kano-LEADS delegation through the premises.
Getso requested land space behind Al-Majlisul Islami from philanthropists and the state government to support the community school’s vision and mission. He also highlighted the need for more infrastructure development due to student congestion, with about 6,000 students and 800 staff.
In response, Alh. Abubakar Sadik Umar, a member of the Educational Cluster of Kano-LEADS, committed to advocating for resources within the state and beyond to ensure the smooth running of the school.
