The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old scavenger, Dauda Sa’idu, for allegedly desecrating graves and extracting iron rods for sale.
In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakili, it was reported that Dauda Sa’idu, a resident of Yelwa, was apprehended on September 20, 2024, for trespassing, vandalism, and theft.
The PPRO stated that the suspect unlawfully entered a Christian cemetery in the Yelwan Kagadama area of Bauchi during daylight hours, where he damaged several graves and removed iron rods.
During interrogation, Dauda Sa’idu admitted to the crimes, confessing to stealing iron rods and selling them to scrap dealers in multiple transactions, earning N9,500, N12,000, and N5,500, respectively.
He further revealed that he used the money to purchase Indian hemp and food for personal use.
Commissioner of Police Auwal Musa Muhammad has ordered the prosecution of Dauda Sa’idu following the completion of investigations.
The CP also stressed the importance of parental supervision, urging parents and guardians to closely monitor the activities of their children and wards.
