A 33-year-old man, Nasiru Isa, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for sexually exploiting an 11-year-old girl in Kano, Nigeria.
The Federal High Court in Kano handed down the sentence on Monday, following Isa’s guilty plea to a one-count charge of sexual exploitation.
Presiding Justice S.M. Shu’aibu found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to seven years in prison without an option of fine.
In addition to the prison sentence, Isa was ordered to pay a fine of N1 million as compensation to the victim.
According to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Isa committed the crime on multiple occasions in October. He allegedly lured his neighbor’s daughter into his wife’s room and sexually exploited her. The defendant also reportedly took the girl to an uncompleted building and abused her.
The prosecution presented evidence, including the defendant’s confessional statement and the victim’s testimony, to prove their case.
The court found that Isa’s actions violated the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
