The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has inducted 39 pharmaceutical graduates from Bayero University Kano (BUK) as Doctors of Pharmacy (Pharm D).
The induction ceremony took place on Thursday in Kano during the Oath Taking/Induction for the 2023 Pharm D graduates from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Ibrahim Ahmed, the Registrar of the council, addressed the attendees through Anthony Idoko, Director of Education and Training at PCN. He emphasized that the induction is a vital criterion outlined in the PCN Establishment Act, 2022, required for registration as pharmacists.
“As you take oath today and become inducted members, I urge the inductees to maintain high ethical standards and leadership qualities. Follow the guidelines set by the PCN and strive to be exemplary professionals in delivering quality pharmaceutical services for sustainable healthcare in Nigeria,” he stated.
Ahmed further noted that the new inductees must complete a one-year internship at PCN-accredited centers to ensure their training aligns with global best practices.
Prof. Sagir Adamu-Abbas, the Vice-Chancellor of BUK, commended the graduates for their perseverance and dedication to their studies.
He stated, “Your journey of learning and growth does not end here. You are part of a dynamic field that is constantly evolving—one that requires you to continuously adapt, innovate, and contribute to new discoveries. Our collaborations with health institutions and regulatory bodies ensure that we are solving real-world challenges. In this new era of personalized medicine, pharmacy is not just about dispensing medication but about creating solutions.”
Adamu-Abbas reaffirmed the university’s commitment to addressing African developmental challenges through cutting-edge research, knowledge transfer, and training high-quality graduates.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf urged the new inductees to adhere to professional guidelines and act as ambassadors for both their profession and the state. He was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran-Yusuf.
The event concluded with the presentation of an award to the best graduating student, Zubair Abdulkadir.
