Ex-KIRS Boss: Abba Kabiru Yusuf, Kano’s Most Unqualified Governor

Alhaji Sani Abdulkadir Dambo, a former chairman of the Kano State Board of Internal Revenue, has criticized Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf for what he calls a lack of competence to lead the state.

Dambo, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made these remarks on Saturday at a political gathering in Dawakin Tofa.

Reflecting on his time as a former Special Adviser on Investment under Yusuf, Dambo said, “After working under Abba Kabiru Yusuf, I am convinced he lacks the capacity to govern Kano State effectively. Kano has never seen a governor as unprepared as Abba Kabiru Yusuf. He does not understand the value of civil servants and politicians.”

Dambo, who recently left the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), attributed his departure to the governor’s leadership style, though he said he still respects the party’s national leader, Engr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

“I left the NNPP because of Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf’s actions, not due to any issues with our leader, Engr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso,” he explained.

Dambo also accused the governor of self-interest during local government primaries, saying, “During the local government primaries, you prioritized your own interests and handled election matters selfishly.”

The former revenue chairman alleged that since joining the NNPP, Yusuf had been biased against him, associating him with former Governor Ganduje’s political camp.

“Since I joined the NNPP, you have constantly accused me of being affiliated with Ganduje’s political camp. Your dislike for Ganduje exceeds even that of your own leader,” Dambo said.9Additionally, Dambo claimed that Yusuf involved his family in state matters, calling it hypocritical.

“You criticized Ex-Governor Ganduje for allegedly involving his family in government affairs, yet I never saw Abba Ganduje or Balaraba involved in Ganduje’s office. Meanwhile, your eldest son, Al-Amin, is always by your side, like an attachment or personal aide. You even brought him into government affairs until Rabi’u Kwankwaso instructed you to remove him, which you did—only to replace him with his friend Najeeb.”

At the time of compiling this report, the Kano State government had not yet issued an official statement regarding Sani Dambo’s comments.
