Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and oil magnate Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano (A.A. Rano) have extended their best wishes to Kabiru Alhassan Rurum in celebration of his 55th birthday.
Rurum, a former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, currently represents the Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Governor Yusuf described Rurum as a “respected and polished personality” and acknowledged his contributions to Kano State. “This is to wish you a peaceful and blessed celebration of your 55th birthday anniversary. We are proud to have you as our son and representative. May the moments ahead be filled with peace, prosperity, wisdom, and sound health,” the governor stated.
Dr. Ganduje, reflecting on their working relationship during his tenure as governor, highlighted Rurum’s reliability and vision. “Happy Birthday, Rt. Hon. Rurum—a dependable ally and courageous politician. You are a fine legislator and politician whose life is marked by vision, straightforwardness, and selflessness,” Ganduje said.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, acknowledged Rurum’s commitment to legislative excellence. “At a moment like this, we have no enough words to thank Almighty God for these years you’ve spent on earth,” Tajudeen wrote. “They are 55 eventful years adorned by success and achievements in all spheres of human endeavour. You are indeed a fine legislator, a jewel to this House, and to the Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Federal Constituency.”
The Speaker highlighted Hon. Rurum’s significant contributions to both his constituency and the legislative process at the national level.
Hon. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, also commended Rurum’s accomplishments and leadership. “Your selflessness in representing the Rano/Kibiya/Bunkure Federal Constituency and chairing the House Committee on Air Force is a shining example that you’re a personality with everything it takes to explore all the rights and privileges for the betterment of your constituents,” Sununu said.
Reflecting on Rurum’s life, the Minister described him as an age-long friend. “Your personality testifies to good upbringing. My congratulations to you are accompanied by a prayer for Allah’s mercy to remain with you and for you to continue aging with grace,” he concluded.
Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, a friend of Rurum, commented on the legislator’s contributions to the community. “Rt. Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum is a prominent son of Rano and a patriotic individual advancing the cause of Rano, Kibiya, Bunkure, Kano State, and Nigeria. My family and the entire staff of A.A. Rano Petroleum congratulate you on this milestone,” he remarked.
Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila called Rurum an “achiever at 55,” praising his courage and reliability. He described him as a “golden fish that shines always in character and wisdom.”
Former members of the 7th and 8th Kano State House of Assembly reflected on Rurum’s leadership. They noted his journey from his early days in politics with the NRC to his tenure as Speaker of the Assembly, where he demonstrated boldness and commitment to public welfare.
In their birthday statement signed by Salisu Ibrahim Riruwai, the member representing Doguwa Local Government, they said: “As Speaker, Rurum achieved notable milestones, including stepping down without impeachment and later being reinstated. His tenure saw the initiation of major infrastructural projects, such as the Karfi/Bunkure/Rano/Kibiya road. His dedication to motions, job creation, and state discourse highlights his impactful service.”
They also noted that Kabiru Alhassan Rurum’s journey has been defined by patriotism, courage, and remarkable leadership. “From his early days in politics with the NRC to serving as Speaker of the 8th Kano State House of Assembly, he has consistently demonstrated boldness and commitment to public welfare. Happy Birthday, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Rurum—a true patriot and leader!”

Kabiru was born on January 1, 1970, in the Katanga quarters of Rurum in Rano Local Government Area of Kano State. He attended Rurum Central Primary School between 1977 and 1982, Government Junior Secondary School, Rurum, between 1983 and 1985, and Government Grammar Secondary School, Rano, between 1985 and 1988, where he obtained his SSCE certificate.
He obtained his National Diploma in Administration Management from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile–Ife, in 2000, and his Advanced Diploma from the Federal College of Education, Kano, in 2002. He is known for his strong oratory skills, excellent judgment, and keen interest in community development.
