A 23-year-old man, Rabiu Gambo, has been sentenced to sweep the premises of a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for 40 days after pleading guilty to stealing a wallet.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, who passed the sentence on Tuesday, expressed leniency toward the convict due to his guilty plea, which saved the court’s time.
Emmanuel also warned Gambo to refrain from any future criminal activities once he completes his sentence, emphasizing that the punishment serves as a deterrent to others.
According to the prosecution, Gambo was arrested following a complaint lodged by Yusuf Maishago of Ungwan Sarki, Kaduna. On December 27, Maishago reported that Gambo had stolen his wallet, which contained N50,000, two ATM cards, and various identity cards. The theft, which occurred in violation of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017, was investigated by the Malali Police Station.
The court’s ruling highlights its commitment to upholding the law while offering a rehabilitative approach to offenders.
