Emir of Daura to Turban Ex-Speaker Salisu Buhari as Iyan Daura

The Emir of Daura, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar, is set to confer the traditional title of Iyan Daura on Alhaji Ibrahim Salisu Buhari, the first Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives in the Fourth Republic.

The turbaning ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Emir’s Palace in Daura, Katsina State, starting at 11:00 a.m.

This was disclosed in an invitation signed by Salisu Buhari, dated December 17, 2024, and made available to the public.

The invitation reads “With humility and profound gratitude to Almighty Allah (SWT), I formally invite you to my turbaning ceremony as Iyan Daura, conferred on me by our father, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar, CON.”

Expressing his appreciation for the honor, Salisu Buhari added “I shall be highly honored to have your esteemed presence and sincerely hope that you can join me on this occasion. If you are unable to attend, I humbly solicit your kind prayers.”

Alhaji Salisu Buhari made history as the first Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives upon the country’s return to democracy in 1999. The upcoming turbaning marks recognition of his contributions to national development and his ties to the Daura Emirate.
