The Nigerian Army has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Wargaming Centre at the Department of Land Warfare, Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, as part of efforts to modernise military training and enhance operational effectiveness.
The development was disclosed in a statement posted on the Nigerian Army’s official X handle by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele.
Speaking at the unveiling on Saturday, the Commandant of AFCSC, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Alhaji, said the College remains committed to producing officers who are intellectually prepared for command, instructional and staff responsibilities in an increasingly complex security environment.
Alhaji explained that the Wargaming Centre, which was conceptualised and driven by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, would greatly improve personnel capacity to develop modern operational concepts, strengthen strategic thinking and enhance combat decision-making.
He commended the Army leadership for delivering what he described as a world-class facility, assuring that the College would continue to support the Department of Land Warfare in delivering high-quality professional military education.
In his remarks, the COAS reaffirmed the role of AFCSC as a national and regional centre of excellence for training officers capable of addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
Shaibu said the Wargaming Centre would serve as a vital platform for commanders to plan, rehearse and execute military operations with greater precision.
“Investment in advanced training technologies is essential for staying ahead of adversaries and strengthening the Army’s capacity for effective deployment across different theatres,” he said.
He urged both students and instructors to make optimal use of the facility, noting that the Army now operates in highly fluid, unpredictable and technology-driven environments.
The Army Chief reiterated his commitment to upgrading and modernising military training infrastructure to meet global standards, adding that AFCSC’s growing international reputation makes the introduction of cutting-edge facilities timely.
Shaibu also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his continued support for national security, which he said has been instrumental to the Army’s ongoing transformation.
He further commended the Commandant and the entire AFCSC community for their dedication to promoting professionalism within the Nigerian Army.
