The Federal University Dutse (FUD) on Saturday officially matriculated a total of 3,964 students for the 2025/2026 academic session, marking the conclusion of the university’s 2025/2026 admission exercise.
Speaking at the event, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed, disclosed that the university received 9,611 applications for admission, admitted 4,558 candidates, and eventually registered 3,964 students, who were formally matriculated during the ceremony. He noted that the National Universities Commission (NUC) admission quota for FUD stands at 5,583.
Professor Abdulkarim also highlighted recent developments at the university, including the completion of the Faculty of Law complex. He said students would be admitted into the Faculty in the next academic session, following resource verification visits and approval from relevant regulatory bodies.
Addressing the new students, the Vice-Chancellor said, “With today’s matriculation exercise, you have entered into a contractual agreement with the university as full-fledged students, with rights, privileges, and obligations attached to your new status.”
He urged the students to take their studies seriously, stressing that they were among the fortunate few to gain admission through a highly competitive process.
The Vice-Chancellor warned against engaging in vices such as examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, fighting, and stealing, adding that grievances should be channelled through the Student Union Government or the Dean of Student Affairs, rather than taking the law into their own hands.
Professor Abdulkarim further advised the students to familiarise themselves with the students’ handbook, which contains the university’s rules and regulations, and to adhere strictly to the institution’s dress code to avoid unnecessary embarrassment.
He also highlighted the university’s achievements, noting that FUD has graduated nine sets of students, most of whom are excelling in various parts of the world.
The matriculation ceremony, which attracted staff, students, and parents, formally inducted the new students into the university community and set them on the path to academic and personal development.
