The United States spent more than $11 billion during the first week of its war against Iran, U.S. lawmakers were told during a Pentagon briefing on Tuesday, the New York Times reported.
According to the report, which cited sources familiar with the closed-door briefing, members of Congress were informed that the cost of the first week of the conflict exceeded $11.3 billion, underscoring how quickly the fighting is consuming U.S. weapons and military resources.
The figure does not include several other expenses related to preparing the strikes, the report said, suggesting the overall cost for the first week could be significantly higher.
Defence officials had earlier told Congress that roughly $5.6 billion was spent on munitions in the first two days of fighting alone, according to U.S. media reports, a figure far higher than earlier general estimates.
