Security agencies across Nigeria have stepped up operations, deploying thousands of personnel to key locations nationwide following recent security concerns.
Operatives are now stationed at mosques, markets, shopping malls, motor parks, recreational centres, amusement parks, and critical national infrastructure sites.
The move comes after multiple bomb explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State, which reportedly killed 23 people and injured 108 others.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) confirmed large-scale deployments in the FCT, Kano, Jigawa, Kwara, and Edo states.
FCT: NSCDC Commandant Olusola Odumosu ordered 4,000 personnel deployed across Abuja. According to the command’s spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, the deployment involves specialised units, including the Arms Squad, Female Strike Force, Crack Squad, CBRNE Counter-Terrorism Unit, and Agro Rangers.
“The Commandant has ordered deployment of 4,000 personnel across the nooks and crannies of the FCT to enforce law and order,” the statement read.
Odumosu warned commanders to ensure strict compliance with operational directives.
“All hands must be on deck. I will not tolerate any form of breaches; ensure your personnel comply fully,” he said.
Jigawa: The NSCDC deployed 1,450 personnel to strengthen security across the state. Public Relations Officer Badaruddeen Tijjani said:
“The deployment is part of efforts to forestall security breaches. Special teams, including Anti-Vandal and Disaster Management Units, are on high alert to protect national assets and public facilities.”
State Commandant Kabiru Ingawa directed officers to intensify patrols and surveillance, adding that the Agro-Rangers Squad was on standby to prevent attacks on farmlands.
Kano: Over 3,400 NSCDC personnel have been deployed across the state. State Commandant Hassan Agalama said:
“Our operatives are strategically stationed at markets, motor parks, and other public places, while rapid response teams are on standby to respond to any security threat.”
He added that intelligence and surveillance units are strengthened, with special attention on power, water, and telecommunications infrastructure, urging residents to report suspicious activities.
Kwara: NSCDC deployed 2,350 personnel across all 16 local government areas. Spokesperson Ayoola Shola said the operation, approved by State Commandant Bala Bodinga, is guided by credible intelligence and prioritises high-risk areas.
Edo: Over 2,000 personnel have been deployed across the three senatorial districts. State Commandant Saidi Akintayo said operatives are positioned to secure public places and vulnerable locations in collaboration with other security agencies.
Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Sector Command, deployed 1,889 personnel for special patrol operations running from March 17 to 22, 2026.
Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to inter-agency collaboration, working closely with local vigilantes and community stakeholders to ensure comprehensive coverage and rapid response to any threats.
