Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has lost the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 election in Bauchi State.
Tuggar was among the cabinet members who resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s administration in compliance with the directive ordering appointees seeking elective offices in 2027 to step down before March 31, 2027.
The result of the APC governorship primary was announced in the early hours of Saturday after several hours of delay by the Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primaries Committee for Bauchi State, AIG John Abang (retd.).
Announcing the outcome, Abang declared former Governor Mohammed Abubakar the winner of the exercise after defeating six other aspirants.
According to him, Abubakar polled 57,517 votes to emerge victorious, while Tuggar secured 26,001 votes.
He added that Nura Manu Soro garnered 13,638 votes, Bala Maijama’a A. Wunti scored 13,648 votes, Kabir Baba Ma’aji polled 8,157 votes, Baba Abubakar Suleiman got 7,688 votes, while Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi secured 7,181 votes.
Kano Times reports that incumbent Governor Bala Mohammed defeated Abubakar in the 2019 governorship election in the state.
Mohammed contested and won the election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while Abubakar lost his re-election bid as the incumbent governor under the APC.
