The senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Buba, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, for the 2027 election in Bauchi State.
The affirmation was announced on Monday in Bauchi by the party’s Deputy National Vice Chairman (North), Haruna Buhari, following the conclusion of the party’s governorship primary election.
Buhari said the exercise was part of the PRP’s nationwide primary elections conducted across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in line with party guidelines and electoral laws.
According to him, Buba emerged as the sole cleared aspirant and satisfied all constitutional and legal requirements for affirmation.
“The party constitution provides for affirmation even where there is only one aspirant. The delegates must agree and return the candidate elected, and that process has been completed,” he said.
He disclosed that 766 delegates from the 20 local government areas of Bauchi State participated in the exercise and endorsed Buba as the party’s governorship candidate.
Speaking after his affirmation, Buba promised to implement an N80,000 minimum wage for public servants if elected governor in 2027.
“I repeat, we will implement a minimum wage of N80,000 in the public service,” he said.
The lawmaker described the PRP as “a movement rooted in justice, equity and the dignity of ordinary Nigerians,” adding that the party represents the political ideals of the late Aminu Kano.
He also called for unity within the party and appealed to supporters of other aspirants to join hands with him.
“To those who supported other aspirants, I extend my hand to you. From this moment forward, we move together,” he added.
On his policy direction, Buba identified security, infrastructure, agriculture, mining and economic development as major priorities.
He pledged to strengthen security through collaboration with traditional institutions, local security outfits and technology-driven surveillance systems.
“No investor will come where there is insecurity, and no farmer will plant where there is fear,” he stated.
The senator also promised investments in roads, storage facilities, renewable energy and industrial infrastructure.
Kano Times reports that Buba’s emergence came hours after he officially defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the PRP.
In a statement issued earlier by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Sabo Mohammed, the senator said his decision followed consultations with political associates, stakeholders and supporters across Bauchi State.
“The absence of internal democracy, lack of fairness, marginalisation of genuine party members and disregard for the voices of grassroots supporters have made it impossible to continue under the APC,” Buba said.
He added that his decision to join the PRP was based on the party’s commitment to justice, accountability, inclusiveness and people-oriented leadership.
Buba had earlier withdrawn from the APC governorship race, alleging irregularities and constitutional breaches during the conduct of the party’s primaries in Bauchi State.
He accused some party officials of announcing predetermined results without conducting actual voting.
