The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu, who was in charge of Zone 9 Headquarters, Umuahia, has died.
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State announced the death of the senior police officer on Saturday in Umuahia, revealing that he passed away after battling cancer.
Otti described the late AIG as a dedicated and hardworking officer who served the nation with commitment, professionalism and integrity throughout his career.
The governor expressed sadness over the development and prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul.
He also extended his condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and loved ones of the late police chief, urging them to find strength in this difficult period.
A minute of silence was observed in honour of Uzuegbu at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, where Otti announced the death while delivering his acceptance speech after emerging as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for a second term ahead of the 2027 election.
