Ex-Adamawa Senator Abbo Emerges Labour Party Governorship Candidate

Former Senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, Elisha Abbo, has emerged as the Labour Party, LP, governorship candidate for Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 general election.

Abbo secured the party’s ticket after receiving clearance from the national leadership of the Labour Party on Saturday, days after he was screened at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

His emergence sets the stage for a potentially fierce contest in the state, with the former lawmaker expected to face the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Ahmed Galadima, and Aishatu Binani of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.

Speaking after clinching the party’s ticket, Abbo pledged to provide purposeful leadership and pursue policies aimed at economic revitalisation, youth empowerment and infrastructure development across Adamawa State.

He also stressed the need for an inclusive administration that prioritises citizens’ welfare, job creation, education, healthcare and security.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, the former senator expressed confidence in his electoral prospects.

“By this time next year, 29th May 2027, I will be sworn in as Governor of Adamawa State. Congratulate me in advance,” he wrote.

Abbo’s emergence is expected to intensify political activities in Adamawa State as political parties and stakeholders begin strategic preparations for the 2027 governorship election.

The Labour Party candidate is also expected to commence consultations and grassroots mobilisation across the state’s 21 local government areas as part of efforts to consolidate support ahead of the poll.
