Adeleke’s Victory, Signal of NDC’s 2027 Prospects in Kano — Gwarzo

The Kano State governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Aminu Gwarzo, has described Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the Osun State governorship election as a signal of what his party could achieve in Kano in 2027.

Gwarzo, who congratulated Adeleke on his re-election, said the outcome showed that political power ultimately belonged to the people.

He spoke in an interview with PUNCH Online on Sunday while reacting to the result of Saturday’s election.

He said the election demonstrated the strength of democracy and the determination of voters to defend their mandate.

“The people have defended their mandate and demonstrated their resolve to protect the democratic process,” he said.

Gwarzo urged politicians to respect the choices of voters, saying their participation had shown that democracy was working.

“They exercised their democratic rights and reaffirmed that democracy is truly working. Their participation has shown that the power ultimately belongs to the people, whose voices must be respected and whose choices must be upheld,” he said.

He added that Adeleke’s victory was a clear indication that voters were ready to defend their mandate, expressing optimism that the same would happen in Kano in 2027.

“The victory in Osun is a clear signal that the people are ready to defend their mandate, and we believe the same spirit will be witnessed in Kano in 2027,” he said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner after he polled 511,067 votes on the platform of the Accord Party.

The APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, scored 444,811 votes to finish second, while the African Democratic Congress candidate came third with 17,180 votes.
