The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has affirmed Honourable Nasiru Sule Garo as its candidate for the Kano North Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.
The development followed the party’s decision to substitute Engineer Sunusi Danbatta with Garo as its substantive candidate for the senatorial election.
Speaking at the affirmation ceremony held at the party’s senatorial office in Bichi on Friday, the NDC state chairman, Honourable Usaini Isa Mai Riga, said the decision was reached after consultations with stakeholders and consideration of Garo’s experience as a former member of the National Assembly.
Mai Riga, who was represented by the party’s Zonal Vice Chairman, Alhaji Bello Ado Yandadi, said the affirmation marked the conclusion of the party’s internal process for selecting its candidate.
He said, “The party has concluded its internal process and affirmed Honourable Nasiru Sule Garo as our candidate for the Kano North Senatorial District.
“His experience and knowledge of legislative duties will be valuable to the party and the people of Kano North.”
Danbatta, whose candidacy was replaced, described his withdrawal as voluntary and pledged his support for Garo and other candidates of the party.
He said, “My withdrawal is voluntary. I remain committed to the success of the NDC and will work with Honourable Nasiru Garo and other candidates to ensure victory for the party in 2027.”
Accepting the nomination, Garo promised to carry all members of the party along and provide effective representation if elected.
He also appealed to voters across the senatorial district to support his candidacy and the party’s agenda.
Garo, a three-time member of the House of Representatives, represented Gwarzo/Kabo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.
The NDC state organising secretary, Alhaji Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso, said Garo’s emergence would strengthen the party’s preparations for the 2027 election in Kano North.
Kwankwaso said the party would focus its campaign on issues affecting constituents, including economic empowerment, agricultural development, education, healthcare, infrastructure and effective representation.
He said, “Our campaign will be issue-based. We will focus on the challenges confronting our people and present practical solutions in areas such as agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure and economic empowerment.”
Party officials at the ceremony urged members and supporters to remain united and work collectively towards securing victory for the NDC in the 2027 elections.
Garo has already commenced consultations with stakeholders, party members and residents across the 13 local government areas that make up the Kano North Senatorial District.
