Gunmen have killed three persons, injured five others and abducted an 86-year-old community leader, Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo, in Chiromawa, Garun Malam Local Government Area of Kano State.
Nadabo, the owner of Chiromawa Petroleum Station, is also the Sarkin Noman Kano, a traditional title associated with the leadership of farmers in the state.
The Chairman of Garun Malam Local Government Area, Alhaji Aminu Salisu Kadawa, confirmed the incident on Sunday.
Kadawa said the gunmen invaded the community at about 11 p.m. on Saturday and attacked Nadabo’s residence.
He said the attackers opened fire, killing three persons and injuring five others.
“The injured victims are receiving treatment in hospital, while security personnel have been deployed to track down the attackers and rescue the Sarkin Noma,” he said.
The chairman said he led local government officials to the hospital to ensure that the injured victims received adequate medical attention.
He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist in rescuing the abducted community leader and arresting the attackers.
Kadawa also said the Kano State Government would intensify security measures in the area.
He urged residents to continue praying and remain vigilant.
The incident is not the first reported attempt to abduct Nadabo.
About five years ago, suspected kidnappers reportedly stormed his office at his filling station in Bakin Tasha area of Chiromawa and shot sporadically into the air before fleeing.
As at the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
