Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, Kano State, will graduate 1,104 students at its combined second and third convocation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Abduldhadi Saleh Kumurya, disclosed this on Monday during a press briefing ahead of the ceremony.
Kumurya said 1,101 students would graduate with first degrees from three faculties across 12 academic programmes.
He said 44 graduands would bag First Class, 271 Second Class Upper Division, 443 Second Class Lower Division, while 241 students from health sciences would receive unclassified degrees.
“I am glad to announce to you here that we shall be graduating a total number of 1,101 graduands for the first degrees from 12 academic programmes,” he said.
The vice-chancellor added that three pioneer postgraduate students would also graduate with higher degrees, describing their graduation as a historic milestone for the institution.
“Though small in number, this pioneer set represents the foundation upon which the university’s postgraduate legacy will be built,” he said.
Kumurya further disclosed that the Vice-President, Kashim Shettima, would deliver the pre-convocation lecture at the ceremony.
“The convocation ceremony is unique because its pre-convocation lecture will be graced by His Excellency, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who will serve as the pre-convocation lecturer,” he said.
He also announced that the university would confer honorary doctorate degrees on three prominent Nigerians for their contributions to society.
According to him, Abdulmumini Maishanu (A.Y. Shafa) will receive an Honorary Doctor of Business Administration, while Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil will be conferred with an Honorary Doctor of Divinity.
He added that the late Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata would be honoured posthumously with a Doctor of Business Administration.
Kumurya said the university would also present academic certificates to the graduands during the convocation.
He said the certificates were important documents required by graduates for employment, further studies, professional advancement and other opportunities.
“This is a significant development because the university recognises that the certificate is an essential document that every graduate needs to proceed confidently into the next stage of life,” he said.
