Fear and desperation have gripped Kankara Local Government Area in Katsina State as armed bandits, reportedly led by a notorious warlord known as Babaro, have taken control of the area.
Security analyst Bakatsine raised the alarm on his verified X handle, describing the situation as dire. He wrote, “BREAKING: Bandits led by feared warlord Babaro seize control of Kankara LGA, Katsina State. Farming banned from Marabar Kankara to Yantumaki, dozens killed/kidnapped, healthcare collapsed. Residents beg Gov. @dikko\_radda & FG for urgent intervention.”
His post points to the collapse of essential services, abandoned farmlands, and a lack of healthcare and security in the area.
Kankara has experienced repeated violence in recent years. In December 2020, over 300 schoolboys were abducted from a government secondary school in a widely reported night raid.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from the Katsina State Government or any federal security agency. Residents continue to plead for help.
