Iran has executed two men convicted of espionage, according to the country’s judiciary news outlet, Mizan News Agency.
The report, published on Monday, stated that the executions were carried out at dawn.
It noted that the sentences were issued by a revolutionary court in Karaj, a city near the capital, Tehran.
Iranian authorities accused the two men of spying for Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, Mossad.
However, details regarding their arrest and the timeline of the trial were not disclosed.
Meanwhile, human rights organisations have repeatedly criticised Iran’s use of the death penalty, alleging that it is often used as a tool of intimidation.
A Norway-based group, Iran Human Rights, reported that at least 1,639 people were executed in the country last year, the highest figure recorded in 35 years.
