The Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday formally acknowledged the leadership of former Senate President David Mark as the head of the African Democratic Congress, ending months of internal restructuring within the opposition party.
The recognition, announced after the submission of a new list of national officers, positions the ADC to consolidate its ranks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Alongside Mr. Mark, INEC also recognized other top officials, including former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Mani as treasurer, Akibu Dalhatu as financial secretary, and Professor Oserheimen Osunbor, a former Edo State governor, as legal adviser.
The commission’s decision is expected to pave the way for the party’s leadership to embark on a nationwide reconciliation and mobilization drive, as the ADC seeks to strengthen its presence in Nigeria’s increasingly competitive political landscape.
The recognition comes at a time when opposition parties are recalibrating their strategies, with the ruling All Progressives Congress and the People’s Democratic Party already jostling for dominance in advance of the 2027 vote.
