Ashaka’s Death Monumental Loss to Nigeria, Media Industry – MAAUN President

The President of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has described the death of former Voice of America, VOA, correspondent and veteran journalist, Saleh Shehu Ashaka, as a monumental loss to both the media industry and the nation.

Gwarzo stated that the late Ashaka lived a life dedicated to service, professionalism and ethical journalism, noting that his contributions earned him respect within and outside Nigeria.

In a condolence message, the university president said Ashaka was not only an outstanding journalist but also a philanthropist who positively impacted many lives through his generosity and humility.

“Saleh was not just an outstanding journalist but also a philanthropist who touched many lives. His generosity to colleagues and the overwhelming outpouring of tributes across the country speak volumes about his character as a kind, humble and benevolent person,” he said.

He described the deceased as one of the finest correspondents produced by VOA, admired for his calm voice and balanced reporting style which endeared him to audiences over the years.

According to Gwarzo, Ashaka’s death has created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill, especially at a time the media industry needs experienced and principled voices.

He extended condolences to the family, friends and professional colleagues of the late journalist, praying Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and give his loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
