President Bola Tinubu has introduced new measures to reduce the cost of governance, limiting the official convoys of Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Federal Government Agencies to a maximum of three vehicles.
In a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the President further directed that no additional vehicles will be assigned for their movement.
The move is part of broader cost-cutting efforts initiated by President Tinubu since the beginning of the year.
“In January, the President reduced his entourage on foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials, and for local trips, it was cut down to 25 officials,” the statement noted. It also mentioned that the Vice President’s entourage was similarly reduced to five officials for foreign trips and 15 for local trips.
Additionally, the new directive mandates that ministers and agency heads will be allowed a maximum of five security personnel, consisting of four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer.
President Tinubu tasked the National Security Adviser with working alongside the Military, Paramilitary, and Security Agencies to determine suitable reductions in vehicle and personnel deployments.
All affected officials are required to comply with these measures immediately, emphasizing the urgency of the President’s directive.
