Sunusi Bature Dawakin, Director-General of Media and Publicity in the office of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, on Friday said All Progressives Congress, APC, National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, was yet to contact the governor on joining the ruling party.
Recall that Ganduje had asked Yusuf to dump the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, and join the APC.
Ganduje had said: “We are appealing to those who want to join APC to come. In particular, we are inviting the Governor of Kano and his NNPP to join APC.”
Reacting, Dawakin said the governor only knew about the invitation via social media.
He stressed that Ganduje should go through the proper channels in communicating with the governor.
Speaking on BBC Hausa service, Dawakin said, “We learned about the invitation on social media, but Dr Ganduje, as a former governor and former deputy governor, knows more than any other person how to send a message to an incumbent governor, appropriately.”
Dawakin added that the governor has not disclosed the possibility of dumping NNPP for APC.
This is coming amid reports that President Bola Tinubu is planning to reconcile Ganduje and NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kwankwaso and Yusuf defected to the NNPP before the 2023 polls, where they both pursued presidential and governorship bids, respectively.
