The Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, praised the significant role played by Kano State Polytechnic in vocational skills, equations, and entrepreneurship for its students. He emphasized the importance of supporting youth to become productive and self-reliant.
During his address at the first combined convocation ceremony of the Innovative and Vocational Enterprise Institute (IVEI) at Kano State Polytechnic, Gwarzo stated, “The aims of establishing the institute are in line with our government policy under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who prioritized education above all else, making it affordable and accessible in the state.”
He expressed his happiness that over 99% of the students enrolled in IVEI were indigenes of the state, although the institute also admitted a few students from outside. Gwarzo urged the institute to collaborate and mobilize rural technology initiatives, focusing on technology-based interventions to alleviate difficulties faced by the rural community in acquiring vocational skills and technical education.
Furthermore, he emphasized that Kano State Polytechnic, as an institute of technology, should play a crucial role in training students to become engineers, ultimately contributing to job creation through entrepreneurship programs.
In his remarks, the Rector of Kano State Polytechnic, Dr. Abubakar Umar Faruq , represented by his Deputy, Dr. Umar Kibiya, expressed gratitude for witnessing this remarkable occasion. The combined convocation ceremony, which had not been held for many years, celebrated a total of 924 students who graduated from the Innovative and Vocational Enterprise Institute (IVEI) with various skills acquisitions in vocational and entrepreneurship.
Similarly, the Rector stated, “Our plan is that all Polytechnic students must acquire vocational skills, entrepreneurship programs, and skills before graduation. This aim is to make them self-reliant and assist them in avoiding dependence on government jobs after they graduate.”
In his words, the Director of the institute Dr. Auwal Sunusi, expressed appreciation to those who attended the event, especially the Deputy Governor of Kano State and the honorable Commissioner of Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Kofar Mata. He also promised to support the management of Kano State Polytechnic in achieving its desired objectives in creating IVEI within the institute.
