The family of prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi has refuted rumors circulating online alleging his death.
Reports on Wednesday claimed Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, a leader within Nigeria’s Tijjaniyya Movement, had passed away. However, a family member, Alhaji Sanusi Dahiru, quickly dismissed the claims.
“The 97-year-old scholar is hale and hearty,” Alhaji Sanusi Dahiru confirmed. “We spoke with him this morning in Abuja, and he is doing perfectly well.”
Sanusi Dahiru further clarified that Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi is scheduled to travel to Kaduna on Thursday for the closing ceremony of the annual Quran Tafsir, where his son Dr. Sulumbai Dahiru previously represented him.
“We urge the public to disregard these rumors,” Sanusi Dahiru concluded. “Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi remains alive and in good health, though advanced in age. We kindly ask the Muslim faithful to continue praying for his well-being.”
