A resident of Agbashi community in Doma Local Government Area (LGA), Nasarawa State, has died and over 100 homes were destroyed after a violent windstorm ripped through the area on Tuesday evening.
John Bako-Ari, the Vice-Chairman of Doma council area, confirmed the tragedy on Wednesday. Bako-Ari said the strong winds caused widespread destruction, including the Agbashi Central Mosque, a primary school, and numerous other public structures.
“It’s true that the windstorm destroyed over 100 houses, including the mosque and a primary school. The incident happened yesterday evening,” Bako-Ari said.
Anthony Oshinyeka, the acting Chairman of the Agbashi Development Association (ADA), expressed his condolences for the loss of life and the devastation caused by the storm. Oshinyeka urged the government to provide immediate assistance to the affected community members.
“This is a terrible misfortune for Agbashi,” Oshinyeka said. “We urgently need the government’s help to support our people during this difficult time.”
