The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has suspended the use of Benin’s stadium due to substandard conditions, forcing the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Benin Republic to be played at a neutral venue.
According to reports from Benin, the country’s football association has requested to play the match in one of the Ivorian stadiums used during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Discussions with their Ivorian counterparts are reportedly underway.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held between June 3rd and 11th.
Super Eagles currently sit in third place in their qualifying group after two matches, with two points. Other teams in the group include Rwanda, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Lesotho.
