A Xejet Airlines Embraer 145 aircraft flying from Abuja to Lagos skidded off the runway at Murtala Muhammed International Airport today around 11:29 am. The plane, carrying 52 passengers and crew, veered off the runway and onto the grassy area.
Emergency personnel from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) immediately responded to the incident. According to airport sources, the 18Left Runway has been closed to air traffic while rescue operations are underway.
This is the second such incident at the Lagos airport in recent weeks. On April 23, a Dana Air aircraft also skidded off the runway. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched an investigation into that incident.
There are no reports of injuries from today’s Xejet Airlines incident. Passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft.
