In a ceremony at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, bestowed new ranks on high-ranking officers. Among the newly decorated is CP Garba Salman Dogo, who will now lead the Kano State Command.
The ceremony, attended by guests including the Governor of Jigawa State and former Governors of Katsina and Bayelsa States, saw the decoration of Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Yahaya Sahabo Abubakar, nine Assistant Inspectors General of Police, and fifteen Commissioners of Police.
In his address, IGP Egbetokun emphasized the values of service, sacrifice, and selflessness. He highlighted the increased responsibilities accompanying their new ranks and urged them to lead with integrity and courage.
“Integrity and meritocracy are the bedrock of our promotion system,” IGP Egbetokun stated, cautioning against any attempts to undermine this principle. He encouraged the officers to exhibit exemplary leadership in their roles.
Among the newly appointed Commissioners of Police are CPs Bassey Samuel Ewah, Osagie John Agans-Irabor, Edem Ita Selong, Monday Agbonika, Michael Okoh, Ayodele Oluyemi Sonubi, Iyamah Daniel Edobor, Isah Danladi Nda, Akaniyene Ifebem Ezima, Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu, Bello Rashid Afegbua, Hycenth Azuka Edozie, Haruna Alaba Yahaya, Peter Ozigi Umoru, and Ayotunde Godwin Omodeinde. CP Salman, set to take over the Kano State Command, is expected to enhance security and public trust.
The event also announced postings, with DIG Dasuki Galadanchi moving to the Force Intelligence Department and various AIGs and CPs assigned to key commands across Nigeria. Notably, CP Ayodele Oluyemi Sonubi will head the Oyo State Command, and CP Bello Mohammed Sani will lead the Kebbi State Command.
In his closing remarks, IGP Egbetokun expressed gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces for his support of the Nigeria Police Force. He also thanked the Police Service Commission for their evaluation of the officers’ performances.
