The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has cut off power to Aliko Dangote University in Wudil over an outstanding debt of N248 million.

In a phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, KEDCO Managing Director Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf explained that the company had no alternative but to take this action.

Yusuf noted that the university had only paid N20 million out of the N248 million owed.

He emphasized that power supply would only be restored if the university made a “substantial payment.”

Yusuf further explained that KEDCO incurs significant costs to purchase power from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), necessitating efforts to boost revenue collection.

“I urge all institutions, including federal and state entities, as well as agencies, to settle their outstanding debts,” Yusuf said. “We have measures in place to ensure the collection of monies owed to us.” (NAN)
