Aisha Adamu Dogara, a Nigerian woman, was attacked by a political thug named Rabiu Yusuf, also known as Bula Bulan Kaura, in Bauchi State.
The attack occurred during a nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest in Bauchi State on the first day of the demonstration as protesters made their way to the Bauchi State Government House. The incident took place along the CBN Roundabout, a key location in the city.
Aisha Dogara, a graduate of Mass Communication and mother of one, recounted the incident, saying, “I was peacefully participating in the nationwide protest when Bula Bulan Kaura approached me aggressively. He started shouting that the Bauchi State governor did not want this protest and then attacked me. Despite the presence of security personnel, no one intervened to stop the assault.”
According to eyewitnesses, Bula Bulan Kaura, an ally of Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad, confronted Dogara and beat her, declaring that the Bauchi State governor had no interest in the protest.
The attack on Dogara occurred in the presence of several security personnel, including officers from the Nigerian Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and representatives from various human rights groups.
One of the protesters, Adamu Garba Wunti, who witnessed the incident, stated, “We were shocked to see such brutality. Aisha Dogara was only exercising her right to protest peacefully, and yet she was attacked in broad daylight. This must be addressed immediately.”
Naziru Mahadi, a member of the Bauchi Civil Society Group, also commented on the incident, saying, “This attack is not just an assault on Aisha Dogara but on the rights of all citizens to protest peacefully. We call on the authorities to take swift action against Bula Bulan Kaura and ensure that justice is served.”
Bula Bulan Kaura was heard saying during the attack, “The Bauchi governor is not interested in this peaceful protest.”
Aisha Dogara sustained injuries from the attack and has called on women’s groups to support her in exercising her rights and seeking justice.
“I urge women’s groups to stand by me as I seek justice and exercise my rights following this attack.”
