Bayero University, Kano has achieved a notable feat by securing two bronze medals in Judo at the ongoing 11th Africa University Games (FASU), co-hosted by the University of Lagos and the Lagos State University (LASU).
Mujahid Musa, a student from the Accounting Department, earned bronze in both the 73 kg category and the open category, marking a significant achievement at this international event.
“Winning these medals is a dream come true for me. I dedicated a lot of time to training, and it’s rewarding to see my hard work pay off,” Mujahid said.
Professor Rabiu Mohammed, the Director of Sports at the university, expressed his pride in Mujahid’s accomplishments.
“I am extremely happy with his performance. He has truly earned these medals through his dedication and preparation leading up to the competition. Our success is also a testament to the support from our Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas,” he remarked.
Ado Cizo, the chief coach of Judo at Bayero University, noted Mujahid’s long-standing commitment to the sport.
“Mujahid has been practicing Judo since childhood. Bayero University Kano has become a nurturing ground for judokas, consistently winning gold, silver, and bronze medals in various competitions,” he stated.
Mujahid’s father, who attended the event to support his son, expressed his joy. “I am incredibly proud of him. Mujahid has inherited my passion for Judo; I represented Nigeria in several international competitions and also played for Bayero University. It’s heartwarming to see him continue the legacy,” he said.
