The Rumfa College Old Boys Association (RUMFOBA) Class ’94 marked its 30th anniversary in Kano on Thursday with a call to the Kano state government to establish database centres in each community.
The centres, to be managed by village heads, would collect data on households across the state, supporting decision-making, planning, and project implementation.
Chairman of RUMFOBA Class ’94, Engineer Professor Ibrahim Sani Madugu, discussed the importance of these centres in strengthening security, supporting community development, and aiding small-scale industries.
“The need for these database centres cannot be overstated,” Madugu said. “They would serve as a backbone for effective governance, enabling precise planning and the allocation of resources in a way that truly benefits local communities.”
The association also initiated two projects aimed at supporting Rumfa College, including ensuring water availability in key areas of the school and installing a CCTV surveillance system for security. Following consultations with the Principal of Rumfa College, other initiatives were identified, such as solar-based security lights for vulnerable areas like the NCC computer centre and laboratories, carpets for the school mosques, and the replacement of dead solar batteries. The group is also focused on addressing outstanding allowances owed to security personnel at the college.
Engineer Madugu also highlighted the importance of renewable energy, especially solar power, in addressing the state’s electricity challenges. He expressed his support for the Kano state government’s efforts in establishing the Kano Hydro Electricity Development Company (KHEDCO) and the construction of power stations at Tiga and Karaye dams. “The government is making strides in addressing the energy crisis, and we need to harness renewable energy like solar power to ensure sustainable solutions,” he said.
During the anniversary celebrations, three individuals were recognized for their support of Rumfa College and the educational sector in Kano State. Former Governor Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar-mata, and another recipient were honored for their contributions.
Kano State Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar-mata, spoke on RUMFOBA’s involvement in education and offered advice for future projects. “I commend your dedication to education and encourage you to focus on executing one project successfully each year. At the same time, I urge you to communicate other challenges to the state government for necessary intervention,” he said during the ceremony.
